CBD is a non-psychoactive molecule produced by the cannabis plant. In today’s world, more and more people are using CBD oil for the health benefits it provides. Many of them, however, are still worried that they could fail a marijuana drug test after taking CBD oil.
Drug tests generally screen for the presence of THC or THC metabolites—not CBD. As you might know, the hemp plant from which CBD is derived contains negligible amounts of THC. CBD products, however, shouldn’t trigger a positive result on a drug test. When products contain small amounts of THC, it may be theoretically be possible for a person to fail a drug test after consuming large quantities of a CBD product. In practice, however, cannabidiol products containing only trace amounts of THC are extremely unlikely to cause someone to fail a drug test.
Not all CBD products are created equal. While some companies produce CBD oils that are completely free from THC, other manufacturers produce products that do contain trace amounts of THC in order to promote the so-called entourage effect (i.e. an interactive synergy between various cannabis compounds). The legal limit for the THC content in CBD oil is set at 0.05% – a mere fraction of a percentage.
Can CBD oil make you fail a drug test?
The only way the small amount of THC inside a CBD product might trigger a false positive is if someone were to consume upwards of 1,000 milligrams a day – that’s over a bottle of 10% CBD oil or two bottles of 5% CBD oil. It’s therefore highly unlikely that CBD will show up in a drug test.
This may be a good place to reiterate that not all CBD products are created equal. If you are worried about testing positive on a drug test, you might want to check the THC content of your product before purchasing it. Most reputable manufacturers have made in-depth quality assurance reports available. All of the products that we carry contain less than 0.05% THC.
